Title: Reinforcement aide, not a standalone

Review: This book is less useful than I thought it would be from the preview. As a reinforcement exercise for editing and proofreading exposition writing, it is useful: fixing capitalization errors, selecting interesting adjectives, noun-verb coordination. However, if your students are studying any good grammar book, they should already be covering this stuff. However, it does NOT cover any of the "global composition" items I would have expected from a well-rounded writing course, such as:
Plot (creative writing)
Main characters
Problem-resolution
Poetry
References/citations
Genres (opinion essay vs. factual report)
Book reports
Outlining
Organization (spatial, chronological, topical)
.... you get the idea. Use this book as an aide for struggling students who need additional work in report prewriting and proofreading. But don't bore your achieving students with the unnecessary redundancy of this book when they will still need to take a grammar study and a literature/writing course to keep on top of their game.

Title: Well organized and CD-ROM included!

Review: I ordered this for my daughter to use for our homeschool. I liked how it gave specific tasks for each day rather than just a writing prompt. The topics are interesting to her and challenge her to write about things she wouldn't naturally choose to write about.

But why I'm really leaving a positive review is because it comes with a CD-ROM!! NO MORE Xeroxing papers! I can just print them directly from the disc! The entire workbook is on there. I can print pages as needed for her to complete, but have the book next to me. Maybe I'm geeking out a bit... but it's something I wasn't expecting in my purchase but am so so thrilled to have!

Title: Should Rename This Series

Review: I bought this book and the Fifth Grade one for my kids for homeschooling. To call this book "180 Days of Writing" is a big deception. I don't consider putting check marks next to boxes a day of writing. So many of the exercises in these books had absolutely no writing in them. The kids would draw lines or underline something. In the beginning my kids were excited to have something new for writing, but by the end of the second week they were dreading doing these books. I have put them on the shelves and will not be using them anymore. I'm not sure how these books got such a high rating. What a waste of money!

Title: Finally a curriculum that works!

Review: Love this curriculum! I'm homeschooling and got 5 core subjects for my 3rd grader (Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies). The assignments are well thought out and meet standardized test standards. Each lesson builds on the last. My ADHD son is doing the work in double time. I'm so grateful for this curriculum!

Title: This is an amazing resource for teachers

Review: This is an amazing resource for teachers. You do need to have prior knowledge on how to teach narrative, informational, and opinion forms of writing. The curriculum spirals and aligns to CCSS which is great for students with limited attention spans. You can teach the content in small bites and it is really evident if the student is making progress or has mastered the standard. It is also a great tool for gathering standards based data and using the data to plan next steps for instruction.

Title: Good resource for teaching writing in lower grades or special education

Review: I used the 2nd grade book last year with my 4th/5th grade special education class and saw more improvement in their writing over the year than I saw in past years. Bought the 3rd grade version for this year to continue building. Love that there are lessons for each day of the week and each week of the school year and a CD with the worksheets is included.

Review: Just one page a day for our homeschooler. That is all it takes is 5 pages a week for the subject of writing. Right on target as far as subject matter. It has been working well for us this year

Title: Grammar Errors

Review: “The adjective help make the writing more interesting.” This is a direct quote from the answer key in this book, which claims to help teach subject/verb agreement. This isn’t the first error with subject/verb in this workbook. This is at least the second error of this kind, and we are on week 7 of 180 days. The editing should be better for an instructional book.
